Case Study 004

The Accidental EcoResort: Bambu Indah, Bali

We highlight this case study because of its use of principles important to nature based facilitation, evolution in design, inclusion of local community, and spirit of discovery.

Experimentation

Good, nature-inspired design — whether visual or psychological — is an evolution in experimentation.

“We’ve always thought of Bambu Indah as an experiment in regenerative hospitality: We play with different ways to not just preserve the natural world, but help build it back.”

Resourcing

A multi-channel system of sustainable resourcing: restoring century-old homes, using rapidly renewable bamboo, and integrating native communities and artisans.

Innovation + Education

Jewelry designer John Hardy and his partner bring their artistry and vision directly into the guest experience. Their ethos blurs the line between design and hospitality, inviting guests to learn through immersive workshops, a mushroom farm, and rice field explorations.

Future-Proofing

While the spirit of experimentation is thriving, Bambu Indah could deepen its impact through peer and B2B education, larger activations, and conservation-driven events.

Nature System Reset Factor

Cortisol drops. Tension evaporates. Limbs loosely extend into the lush forest canopy that is underfoot, in furnishings, and the scaffolding of the surrounding forest. Uncertain of where you dissolve and nature begins, Bambu Indah proves that artistry, innovation, and sustainability can converge into a living hospitality philosophy — where discovery, itself becomes the luxury.

Case Study 009

Tuscan Stone Storytelling

Villa Casagrande, Italy

We highlight this case study for its embodiment of heritage preservation, artisanal craft, and cultural continuity woven into boutique hospitality. Villa Casagrande demonstrates how legacy can be both restored and reimagined through residencies, conservation, and immersive guest experiences—one stone and step, at a time.

Legacy Restoration

Founded in the 14th century, Villa Casagrande has been lovingly restored under the vision of Dr. Cesare Luccioli and his daughter Claudia Luccioli, who preserved frescoes, architectural character, and original detailing. This stewardship connects guests directly to centuries of lineage and local history.

This place is alive. It breathes with history, but it’s meant to grow.

Community & Craft

Beyond bricks and mortar, the villa sustains tradition through artisanal partnerships and local cultural programming. Guests encounter not only reanimated walls, but living heritage: cuisine, art, and practices that root modern luxury in ancient continuity.

Residency Model

The property holds natural potential for sabbatical residencies — spaces where leaders, artists, and academics can immerse in Tuscany’s rhythms, drawing inspiration from both heritage and landscape. In this, Villa Casagrande reflects a future of boutique hospitality that extends beyond leisure into learning and legacy.

Future Proofing

The villa’s success lies in its restoration and storytelling. Its next opportunity is to develop educational and conservation-driven activations: from fellowships in artisanal craft to eco-cultural retreats. These programs would extend Villa Casagrande’s relevance across generations and position it as a hub for stewardship as well as hospitality.

Nature System Reset Factor

Screen time is extinguished by Tuscan scrolls with a vista of the pool. Stress melts into puddles and local wine is paired with hand picked tomatoes and a song in your salad. The language of love is a stanza that translates to both self and the soil. Equal parts ‘giovane’ and ancestry, Villa Casagrande illustrates how time, tradition, and place can be curated into a living legacy. Guests don’t just stay within history — they become part of its continuation.

“Every project begins with creating harmony—with the staff, with the space, with the guest experience. I want my team to feel at home, to feel protected. When people are supported, they give back with their hearts. That is what makes this place alive.”
